Cycling Ride

This 45+ km ride will provide you the opportunity to ride through three NW parks – Nose Hill, Confederation and Silver Springs Botanical Gardens.

This ride has two significant climbs with some shorter steep hills. To compensate there are some great downhill sections that make it all worthwhile.

The starting point for this ride will be the Crowchild Twin Arena parking lot - 185 Scenic Acres Dr NW Calgary AB. 

The ride will include:

• A short ride through Scenic Acres and Tuscany. We’ll follow the cycle path adjacent to Stoney Trail for our first climb to the top of the Royal Oak hill.
• From here will make our way through Citadel and into the Hamptons. Some lovely paths with some short steep hills.
• We’ll continue through Edgemont which offers a long downhill section before joining the cycle path to Nose Hill Park. There are flush toilets at the entrance of Nose Hill Park.
• Riding east on the top of Nose Hill Park, we join the path along 14^th Street NW and connect to a little known path through North Haven. Using an older cycle path along 4^th Street NW, we’ll enter Confederation Park.
• We’ll stop here for lunch. Washrooms are available here.  We’ll ride through the park and follow the bike path to connect to the University LRT overpass.
• Following the northern perimeter of the University, we’ll make our way through the University District if traffic is light.
• We’ll make our way through Varsity Estates to connect to the bike path leading to the Silver Springs Botanical Gardens. After a short stop to view the large number of floral gardens, we will make our way back to the Crowchild Twin Arena.  

This ride will be mostly on paved pathways with a few sections on public roads.  It is important your bike be in good condition, especially your brakes.  Bring along the usual – water, sunscreen, lunch, medical info, etc.
