Although this ride is labeled as level 2, it is more like a level 3 ride due to the hills and riding on secondary highway.
Departing from the parking lot west of the Stockman’s Restaurant on Dunbow Rd at 10 AM, we will cycle east then south on paved secondary highway to the Saskatoon Farm. Some sections have shoulders, some not and if you are uneasy with cars and pickups whizzing past you, this ride is not for you. The plan is to have lunch in the Saskatoon Farm restaurant. Last year, the owners had a sign stating that no food is to be brought onto the premises so please do not bring your lunch and eat on the site. The return trip will be through DeWinton which entails crossing the #2 highway which is very busy. To avoid all gravel sections, my plan is to cross the #2 highway at the Okotoks turn off, going west on highway 552. There are numerous hills and ebikes are recommended. Total distance is 42 km and the ride is totally on secondary paved highway. There are no public washrooms in the strip mall at the Stockmans so make sure you use the facilities at a fast food outlet on your drive down to the start point. The ride to the Saskatoon Farm takes about an hour. I talked to a lady with the Saskatoon Farm and she asked that we do not bring food onto their premises so please plan on buying your lunch at the farm. The Saskatoon Farm has offered one of their empty greenhouses or shops not open to the public to store our bikes while we have lunch. If coming down Deerfoot Trail, turn west onto Dunbow Road and go about 1 km and The Stockman Restaurant is on your right. Turn onto the service road and continue on west for about ¾ km and there is a parking lot with a ball diamond. We will meet there. We have been asked not to park in the parking lot at the Stockman due to its small size. If coming down MacLeod trail, turn east onto Dunbow road and the Stockman is almost immediately to your left.
