Ride Details:
Arrive at 9:40 am at the old Canmore Visitor centre to have yourself and bike ready for a 10:00 am start. We will ride the Legacy Bike trail which follows Highway #1 from Canmore into Banff. It is a paved pathway well off the highway, although at times you do see and hear the traffic. It is a busy pathway, so the number of participants is limited to allow for other riders to be able to pass our big group. The route follows a slow uphill towards Banff with a couple of steep hills. We will make a short bathroom stop along the trail at a lookout/picnic site. When we get to Banff, we will make a short loop through the town. We will stop for lunch and a bathroom break at Central Park. We will finish our short tour through the heart of the townsite and return on the Legacy trail. The return is mostly downhill with 1 long gradual uphill. The entire trip will take at least 4 hours.
Due to the pathway flooding in Banff, we may have to shorten the planned route through town and if need be, change our lunch stop.
