Join us for the Club inaugural level 3 ride of the La Tour de Springbank. The main route will be ~43-45 km in length and will have an accumulated elevation gain of 270 metres. There will be an option to extend the route 8-9 km and add another 110 metres of climb. The riding surface will be 90% quiet asphalt roadways, 9% paved pathways and 1% dirt/gravel paths. The good news is that there will not be any bears to outrun.
We will ride through and by many established Springbank Acreage subdivisions containing humble residences to monster mansions! And last but not least we will cruise along Escarpment Dr, where real estate’s prices have exceeded $20 million! We will cross over and then under the TransCanada highway on our return.
We will ride to magnificent Bow river and Rocky mountain views, circumnavigate the new Mickelson golf course on new bike pathways, north of the Springbank Airport, the 10th busiest airport in Canada. We will explore the expanded paved bike path throughout the lake community of Harmony. We will then head west and south on the recently widened and beautifully resurfaced RR 40. This road is now part of the Springbank Dry Dam alternative once in a hundred years traffic detour route! (Oh, how are tax dollars are utilized!)
We will meet at the Springbank Park for All Seasons sports complex parking lot by the picnic tables, located at the northeast corner of RR33 and Springbank Road before 9:45 AM. Park at the east end of the parking lot. Wheels start rolling at 9:59 AM. Head west on the TransCanada highway past Winsport and turn off at the Calaway Park (RR33) intersection and head south 2.5 km. The Sports complex is on the east side of the Springbank high school.
Public Washrooms will be at the Harmony Golf Launchpad, the Harmony Discovery Centre (after 2:00 PM) and the Springbank Park for All Seasons.
In addition bring your helmet, sunscreen, water, lunch, tools, inner tube, and your medical contact info.
