This is NOT a ride but rather an E-bike Training program for New E-bike riders.
PURPOSE Practice riding to develop the cycling skills.
WHO should register: New E-bike Riders or those who have had several falls while using them.
WHAT: We will review basic cycling skills and how an e-bike effects them. These skills include: Emergency Braking; Distancing from other riders; Controlling Momentum; Hand Signals; Safe Riding in groups especially with a mix of standard and e-bikes; Riding Etiquette.
Cycling skills will also include weaving around barriers and controlling your bike. Maneuvering around cones safely etc.
Each week will be progressive so that new skills are being taught and practiced.
WHEN: We will meet at 1 PM on Wednesday's, May 8, 15, 22 and 29. Sign up available May 1.
WHY: Many new E-bike riders experience issues getting used to their bike. AND several E-bike riders have fallen when getting on or off their bike, taking sharp corners, and losing momentum while riding closely behind other riders especially on hills.
E-bikes tend to be much heavier than standard bikes and as such can worsen a FALL. Many E-bike riders experience power surges from the power assist which can effect their riding skills and cause problems.
The intention is for riders to practice skills to improve their capacity to remain safe while riding.
WHERE: We will meet in the Boat Launch parking lot on the west side of Sikome Lake in Fish Creek Park.
Take Bow Bottom Trail South, pass the turn off to Bow Valley Ranch and at the fork in the road by the Hull's Wood Parking Lot stay LEFT. Follow this road until you see the Boat Launch Parking Lot on the left. There are bathrooms in this parking lot but the nicer ones are at the Hull's Wood Parking Lot. Please arrive 15 to 20 minutes early so we can be ready to start on time.
