LEVEL 1: CYCLING TOUR of COCHRANE
Level 1 speed. Level 1.5 difficulty. No big hills but "rolling" ride with short inclines/declines. We will always wait for anybody who decides to walk up an incline. You'll see a side of Cochrane you may not have explored. The ride mostly follows paved paths along the Bow River and one short section with packed shale/dirt. We'll even cross the recently-opened Jack Tennant Memorial Bridge and cut through the campground. Bathroom stops at the Spray Lake Sawmills (SLS) Family Sports Centre and later at the start of the westerly ridge ride . Lovely parks along the way. Beautiful river and mountain views from the most westerly pathway. Approx. distance: 27 km (~23 km option available). Speed: 18 km or under
MEETING LOCATION for COCHRANE CYCLE: Parking lot in Riverfront Park (Cochrane) at SE corner of Griffin Road and Highway 22. Coming north on Hwy 22, Griffin Road is the first right turn after crossing the Bow River. Coming south on Hwy 22 from Hwy 1A, Griffin Road is the second left turn south of Hwy 1A. Entrance to Riverfront Park is on the right just after you turn on to Griffin Road (i.e. first right turn east of Hwy 22 off the south side of Griffin Road). Plan to arrive before 10.15 a.m. for a 10.30 departure. There are two porta-potties at the parking lot. NB: Construction on HWY 1A in Cochrane and on Hwy 22 at a section between the round-about at Hwy 8 and Hwy 1 may cause slow-downs. (For all it's worth, I go Hwy 1 west to Hwy 22 north to Griffin Road to avoid construction zones.)
