Ride sign up starts Wednesday Aug 18 at 8:00 a.m.
The number of riders is not limited but the group may be split and ride within visual proximity, share lunch together, and then split again for the ride back. This method allows for a large group to go with a single leader who knows the route but avoids bunching up at intersections or having a long train of bikes on a pathway or road. So, don't worry if the number gets to 25. The more, the merrier.
This is a 50 km ride touring some of the residential areas of Bragg Creek. We will not be on the mountain bike trails at West Bragg Creek but instead will be cycling on a variety of paved bike paths, gravel bike paths and paved residential roads.
After meeting at the Bragg Creek Community Centre, we’ll cycle past the plaza area, over the bridge to the 3-way stop and head west. We will do several detours through some interesting residential areas, ending up at the West Bragg Creek parking lot (and public washrooms). We then head straight back to the 3-way stop and from there cycle north on the road to our lunch spot on a lake. We then continue through some more residential areas, past the golf course and return to the plaza area. At this point we will have several options for ice cream! The terrain is a mixture of rolling hills with nothing too crazy or steep. We’ll be cycling past lots of forested areas with the potential of seeing deer, moose, fox and bears; bring bear spray if you have it.
Public washrooms are at the gas station in the plaza area or at the West Bragg Creek parking lot (approximately km 26 of our ride). But, there are lots of available trees and bushes enroute!
Please bring helmet, lunch, water, tools, tube and pump. If still applicable, bring your mask and be prepared to answer no to all the Covid screening questions. Also bring bearspray and bear bangers, if you have them. If you need to cancel, go back to the ride sign-up page, enter your membership number and click on cancel ride.
Bragg Creek Community Centre parking lot (near the corner of River Dr south and White Ave., behind the back side of the plaza area). If driving south on Hwy 22, go straight through the traffic lights (which have replaced the 4-way stop) onto the side road. Don’t turn left onto Hwy 22. Bragg Creek Community Centre will be on your left. If driving north on Hwy 22, turn left at the lights and the Community Centre will be on your left. Park on the gravel on the right side of the parking lot.
