The Legacy Trail – 2019-08-22

The Rocky Mountain Legacy Trail, was built to honor Banff National Park’s 125th Anniversary. Google the Banff NP website for more Legacy Trail info plus a PDF map with distances.

This will be a scenic 18 km (one way) “smell the roses” ride that begins at the Travel Alberta Visitor Information Centre (washrooms available) on Bow Valley Trail at the West end of Canmore. The Valley View Day Use area is half-way and an excellent resting / bio-break stop before continuing on to lunch at the Cascade Ponds.  I biked it today (2019-08-15) & it took 1.3 hours outbound against a wind but 1- hour to return with a slight wind.

The round trip will be approximately 36 kms with several, mostly minor, ups and downs. There is one "not so minor" short, steep hill just inside the park boundary ( 5+ KM from Start).  Bring the usual supplies including plenty of water and clothing to allow for changeable weather. Assume 3+/- hours for the return trip including lunch break.

Meeting Location: The Trailhead for the Legacy Trail is located across from the Alberta Visitor Information Centre at 2801 Bow Valley Trail in Canmore - free parking and washrooms.
