Overnight Bike Adventure for Level 2 and Level 3 club riders

We are announcing an Overnight 3-4 day riding adventure out of Cranbrook and Invermere BC in July. As far as we know, this is a first for the club.  Members would be responsible for their own transportation, accommodations and meals.

The dates are July 17-20/21, 2023.  Members would self drive to Cranbrook on Monday, July 17/23.

We have secured some discounted hotel and campsite volume discounts for accommodations at the St. Eugene Casino Resort and Campground,( https://www.steugene.ca/) located about 5 Km north of Cranbrook.  Members would be responsible to make their own arrangements.  When booking a room state you are with the Old Spokes Cycling Club.  The resort is offering the following rate of $478.16 plus taxes, for a double Queen bed room for Two (2) nights.  This rate is being held until May 21/23.  Call 866 292-2020.  Members are free to make alternatives accommodation arrangements.

The St. Eugene KOA campsite is $70.00  plus taxes per night, full services including WIFI.  This rate is being held until June 15/23. Call 250-420-2055.  Again Club Members are free to make their own alternative camping reservations.

We would overnight in Cranbrook (July 17) and then ride the Cranbrook -Kimberley paved bike path trail (280 metres of gain) (, North Star Rails to Trails | Cranbrook to Kimberley BC) on Tuesday, July 18/23.  We can arrange into 2 groups cycling different distances if required, since the return out and back is 50 Km on a pretty flat paved bike path.  These details will be fined tuned at a later date.

We would overnight in Cranbrook (July 18) and on Wednesday, July 19/23, ride from the St. Eugene Resort to the historic Fort Steele (Home | Fort Steele Heritage ) and return (35-40km) along shared roadways. These details will be fined tuned at a later date.

Then, that evening club members can travel north to the Fairmont/Invermere area, a 1 hour drive or remain in Cranbrook and drive up in the morning. Members need to make their own arrangements for accommodations for Wednesday night either in Cranbrook or the Fairmont Springs/Invermere area.

On Thursday we will ride about 40-50 KM out and return on the paved Markin-MacPhail Westside Legacy Trail ( Tour the Westside Legacy Trail - Westside Legacy Trail ). We can arrange into 2 groups cycling different distances if required, since the return out and back is 50 Km with some elevation (500 plus metres total gain) at the Invermere north end.  Again more details will follow.  Members can then overnight (Thursday) in the area after the ride or continue back to Calgary.

This ride is going to happen.  By signing up you are giving us an indication how many members are interested in attending.  We will updating this listing on the exact start times and trail head location closer to the date and will email listed members.

Again, Members would be responsible for their own transportation, accommodations and meals.  Please note that the St. Eugene Casino Resort hotel rates are only available until May 21/23 and the KOA campground until June 15/23.  If you decide to make alternative arrangements do not leave it too late as this part of BC is a very busy tourist area in July.

Thank you

Joanne Bennett/Stu Pritchard
