Cycling Ride

Level 3

Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 10:00am

This is a 50 km ride incorporating the Legacy Trail west of Banff (Vermillion Lakes) and the closed portion of the Bow Valley Parkway to Johnston Canyon.  We will meet at the Banff Train Station Public Car Park.

UPDATE:  similar to the Bragg Creek ride, cyclists will be divided into two groups.  Peter R. will lead the faster L3 riders and Brenda B. will lead the not-as-fast L3 riders.

We join the Legacy Trail to the west of the train station and ride along the side of Vermillion lakes. We continue along the Legacy Trail to the underpass under Highway 1 where we join the closed portion of the Bow Valley Parkway. We continue along the parkway to Johnston Canyon where we will have lunch. We return along the same route.

The terrain is a mixture of rolling hills with one steep hill.  We’ll be cycling on pavement past lots of forested areas with the potential of seeing deer, moose, fox and bears; bring bear spray if you have it.

Washrooms: there is an outhouse at the train station parking lot, outhouses enroute and public washrooms at Johnston Canyon.

Please bring helmet, lunch, water, tools, tube and pump.  Also bring bearspray and bear bangers, if you have them.  If you need to cancel, go back to the ride sign-up page, enter your membership number and click on cancel ride.  Be ready to ride by 9:45.

Meeting Location: Banff Train Station Public Car Park.  If driving west along Highway 1 exit at the Norquay Road and drive into Banff. After crossing the railway line turn left and continue straight at the roundabout to the Public Car Park.
