Tour de Chestermere

We will start at Ralph Klein Park at 10:00 AM heading north along 84 St SE. Will cross the irrigation canal (at 4.5 km) and follow the canal to Chestermere Lake (at 13 km). Continue east across the lake's dam (gravel), turn north through Chestermere to Chestermere Blvd., turn west to Anniversary Park (at 19 km). Lunch at Anniversary Park or at John Peake Memorial Park or at Tim Hortons (or another pillar of life on Earth). Then south along West Chestermere Drive, turn west at the end of the golf course, enjoy riding through Trennen Park, through Rainbow Falls Park with its waterfall, back to the canal and to Ralph Klein Park. Total distance about 40 km, no big and long hills, speed depending on wind and the group’s consensus. Mainly on bike paths except:

- at Shepard at 2.1 – 2.7 km from Ralph Klein Park,

- at Chestermere several times.

 

Public washrooms are available at Ralph Klein Park and at the north end of Chestermere Lake. Bushes are scarce and thin, good planning is crucial!

 

Driving directions: driving along Stoney Trail from north or south, take exit 91 to 114 Ave SE to the east, drive for about 500 m to 84 St. SE. Turn right, i.e. south, continue for 950 m. Then turn left, i.e. east, through a gate with sign 'Ralph Klein Park'. Park on the left, i.e. north, just before the Park's buildings.

Ralph Klein Park is just east of Stoney Trail and about 4.5 km south of Glenmore Trail.

Note- 114 Ave SE intersects with 24 St SE, Barlow Trail SE, 52 St SE, and Stoney Trail SE.

 

Bring your helmet (no helmet - no ride), lunch, water, emergency information, sun glasses, sun screen, spare tires, tire pump, band-aids, and your smile. Be sure your bike is in good working order: bike bell, tires pumped, brakes and gears working, clean chain, mirror is a bonus.

 

Recheck the ride writeup after 8 AM the day of the ride for possible ride cancellations or other changes. If the ride is cancelled, email notifications are sent to all riders signed up for the ride.
