Join Murray on this first ever Level 3 cycle trip on the newly completed Trans Canada Trail from Red Deer to Lacombe for a 60 km return with only 2 medium size hills. This trip was cancelled last year due to poor weather. A lesson to always check on line and watch your emails! Sign up begins Friday August 7.
To reach the Alberta Sports Hall of Flame leave Calgary 2 hours by 8 am and proceed north on Highway 2 and take the 4th Red Deer exit, next exit after Red Deer College into the parking lot at this Sports facility. You may use the public washrooms in this facility and grab a coffee or treat in their snack bar. Tourism Red Deer Information is also open here for maps and information.
We take the Trans Canada Trail from the Sports Hall northeast along the Red Deer River to Taylor Drive and north to the city limits, where the trail extends into Red Deer County to the Blindman River pedestrian crossing and north through the community of Blackfalds onto Lacombe. Our group will visit historic Lacombe during the noon hour for light lunch and beer tasting at the Blindman Brewing or other food locations. But always bring a lunch to enjoy if our trip changes plans.
We understand than many might be attracted to the Red Deer Cycling Trails portion only. If enough phone calls are returned to Murray for a Level 2 ride through Red Deer we will find leaders and post this ride also on the same day. Here's an opportunity for your partner to car pool with you to Red Deer and do their own event. This club has cycled Red Deer every year with their excellent cycle trails and parks.
