Step into the Saga with us! Located in Dickson is the oldest Danish settlement in western Canada.
In one corner of the micro-town is The Dickson Store Museum , a 1930’s style General Store that sold groceries, hardware, dry goods, and included a Post Office. Our costumed interpreters will take you for a walk into the past as you view the restored store, post office, and living quarters of the Christiansen family on the second floor. It’s lots of fun. The former Post Office is now a Gift Shop that features arts and crafts by local artists.
Nearby is the Danish Canadian Museum. The museum feature exhibit rooms including the Heritage Room that captures the coziness of Danish homes from years ago: permanently featuring Danish artifacts brought by Danish immigrants. In all there are over 5,000 artifacts in the Museum Collection.
From the museum is the Pioneer Walk leading towards a red building which shelters the Viking ship Freydis Joanna. .Beautifully engraved plaques decorate the walkway through 13 acres of landscaped gardens and around a lagoon so blue it doesn’t look real.
For lunch we will enjoy authentic Danish cuisine served in the living history Saga Café.
